Ajay Prasad Suggestions Was just reading through some of the suggestions mailed in by people, as well as a few not-so-helpful criticism from some misguided supporters of Kochi. Not to sling mud all over, but a couple of points. One, the proposed trans-shipment terminal at Vizhinjam intends to handle the transhipment traffic for all Indian ports which is currently routed through Dubai, Singapore and Colombo at great loss to the exchequer. This traffic is currently 2.5 million units and projected to double in the next five years. Also, the Vizhinjam deep draft port is one of the very few capable of accomodating supertankers and hence the potential for crude transhipment is enormous. Just to put things in perspective, Vizhinjam has a natural draft of 24m while Kochi has 12m. Secondly, about the two airports. As many of the contributors here have pointed out the passenger load factor at Trivandrum is much higher than Kochi. In business terms, thats how we measure the viability of an airport. Once you accept this, it becomes very hard to accept the smuggling of flights to Kochi as anything but suspicious. I wont even go on about the need for a High Court bench in the capital city, which is the centre of the State Administration. It is so blindingly obvious that no explaination is required. Like I said before, I do not want to sling mud at anyone but the selective distortion of facts cant be condoned. Just thought I would put things straight. rakesh Suggestions Our capital city, Trivandrum is developing .We have so many resources, but the effective management is the major problem. We want to develop further by protecting our own cultural, historical and ethnic values. The critical barriers the city is now facing is the improper way of dumbing the waste. If this problem is solved the city can be developed further more. Thank you rajasree Suggestions 1)parking facilities at many places in trivandrum city should be improved. 2)due to underground cabling work the authorities dig the tarred road & after work the road is not put to proper condition. It will be full of gutters. 3)the waste disposal is very difficult. there should be a daily & systematic arrangement to clear the waste of each house. this can either be done by employing more workers or trying some innovative ideas. 4)there are a lot of beggars these days. they also steal things if the owners are not nearby. there should be some method to avoid begging.most of these people are healthy men/women & mainly children from other states. Sabari Suggestions Trivandrum is a beautiful city with immense growth-potential. Its natural beauty, rich cultural heritage and proximity to the sea add to the potential. I am a resident of this city and I imagine that, if this city were in Andhra or Karnataka, they would have developed it to a major metro by this time. Investors hesitate to start business here, due to lack of support from the government as well as poor facilities. It is a major failure from the part of Development Authority to derail the city from developing. Many big plans have been appearing on newspapers and media, but nothing is materializing. It is high-time that a dedicated body takes control of the development activities from vaious lobbies and help the residents in leading a better life. My sincere suggestions are as follows: - Improve the quality of the roads. It is quite visible that Telecom/Water authorities are waiting for roads to get tarred, so as to dig and destroy them on the second day. This should be restricted. The general public can contribute to this. Any digging process should be done in war-like pace and the road be cleared for traffic at the earliest. - People should help the authority by willingly giving land for road-widening processes. - Bus bays and shelters should be created in all bus-stops, and transport and private buses should strictly stop in the alloted points only. - All roads be well-lit by sodium vapor and high mast lamps, so that families dont fear to travel even at nights. - Dust-bins be kept at intervals of atleast 200 metres and people should put wastes on these containmers only. Others should be fined. - Subways, Parking slots, flyovers be constructed at busy junctions like Medical college, Statue, Palayam, Sreekaryam. - Satellite townships be built at various outskirts like Kazhakuttom, Peroorkada, Pappanamcode, Thiruvallom, etc to avoid congestion in the centre of the city. - Second railway and bus terminals, international stadium, amusement park, new airport building, etc should be developed in a quick pace. - Attract more investors from outside for the overall economic development of the state. There is no point in arguing as to whether Trivandrum or Cochin be given more importance. Both are our own cities and we should try to develop both. Eugin Lopez. F Suggestions 1. Both sides of each and every road should be Clean. Appoint people for cleaning this. Else tell people to clean their own area. 2. Damaged Slabs and Concrete substances are removed and repaired. 3. Footpath business like "Thattukada" etc are removed and give them proper places other than in the road side. 4. Plant more trees in the city beside the roads. 5. Electric posts are removed and lines should be kept underground. Fix only street light posts. 6. Roads should be well machine-tared with good amound of metals, etc. 7. Allow footpath beside the roads with waste bins. 8. Keep dividers & indicators whereever necessary in the roads. 9. Make proper drainage fascilities in the city. 10. Machinaries to recycle the drainage systems and use for irrigation. 11. Expired Buildings should be fired. 12. Allocate bus stand not in the road, but inner side of the road. 13. Traffic rules should be very strict. (Keep Helmets) 14. Beggers should not be encouraged and give them proper shelter by any other Social service societies. 15. Public properties may be repaired and survived. Give penalties to those who destruct public properties. 16. Political Stricks and demonstations should not be encouraged. Preetham Suggestions The Capital City Development Forum and the Confederation of Residents Associations (CONFRA) have, in separate memoranda, urged the MPs from the district to ensure the comprehensive development of the capital city through the realisation of various projects, including the development of the airport and the Vizhinjam port and the establishment of a bench of the High Court in the city. In its 20-point memorandum, the Capital City Development Forum urged the MPs to ensure Central funds for the construction of the international container trans-shipment terminal at the Vizhinjam port. Steps should be taken to ensure that the land necessary for the development of the citys international airport is immediately acquired, it said. International airlines that are seeking landing rights at the airport should be given that facility immediately, the memorandum said. International flights should originate from the capital city and necessary connections should be given to Kochi or Karippur. The memorandum called for the setting up of a railway zonal office in the city, the doubling and electrification of the Thiruvananthapuram-Kanyakumari line, the setting up of a railway line to Vizhinjam, either from Nemom or Balaramapuram, and for the beginning of work on the proposed second terminal at the city railway station. The Forum, among other things, demanded the setting up of an international convention centre at Akkulam, and an All-India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the city. A comprehensive sewerage system for the city and the cleaning up of the Karamana and the Killi, the development of the coast guard station at Vizhinjam, the establishment of an Ayurveda university and a bio-technology park in the city and the establishment of a fashion technology institute at the KINFRA apparel park at Kazhakkoottam are some of the other demands of the Forum. It urged the Government to revoke the decision to relocate the marine aquarium and research centre of the CMFRI from Vizhinjam. In its memorandum, the Confederation, demanded the setting up of a bench of the Supreme Court in the capital city. Calling for the setting up of a naval air base in the city, the memorandum pointed out that the late V.K. Krishna Menon had initiated a project for such an air base at Thumba when he was Defence Minister. The memorandum demanded the setting up of a Central Administrative Tribual, the extension of the national waterway from Kollam to the city, a Thiruvananthapuram-Vizhinjam rail line and the setting up of a shipping service to the Gulf. Harish Suggestions I am a well wisher of Trivandrum. I had compared Trivandrum with most of the greatest cities of India. In Kerala itself Kochi is greater city than Trivandrum. Although Trivandrum city has more population than Kochi city, Kochi urban area has about 1.5 times more population than Trivandrum urban area. So, to overcome Kochi the officials of groups for Trivandrum city’s development like TRIDA, CCDA should notice that if we didn’t chase Kochi now, Trivandrum cannot be a bigger city than Kochi. First of all increase the beauty of outlook of Trivandrum. Look at what GCDA is doing. Like that remove all old and small buildings inside the city and build up latest type of buildings. Start to do this by taking Thampanoor-M.G. Road as a centre and develop it as a great circle. Now, most of the main roads in Trivandrum have many ugly small buildings in the side. Developing like this will bring more business to the city. Also try to bring branches of great business group to Trivandrum. Construction of a port at Trivandrum (Vizhinjam) can increase the growth rate of city. Also develop an urban area around the city. The only thing on which Trivandrum can be proud is its Railway station. Building up a new rail terminal at kochu veli will make it much better in railways. I read many suggestions about the roads in this site, so I am not mentioning about that. JJ Suggestions In a big boost to the States Information Technology initiatives, the $ 902-million Wipro Technologies will set up a software development facility at Infopark in Kochi. Wipro has sought 25,000 square feet fully furnished infrastructure facility in the Park. The company will expand its centre by shifting it to its own building in phases. THAT TELLS IT !!! Rejeesh Rajan Suggestions Ban public demonstrations in the city especially in front of the Secretariat. Demonstrations especially those organized by political parties are a big nuisance to the citys commuters and disrupt traffic during the busy hours. At least such demonstrations should be banned during peak traffic hours. shelly Suggestions HI My dear trivandrum friends, who invite this champak and farook here?they doesnt know the potential of trivandrum.if i go for explaining the potential of tvm even in brief this page provided is not enough.you (mr champak, farook)most of the nations prestigious places and institutes are here.and our neighbour district kanyakumari. u peoples all tinme says kochi port, kochi port...what u should understand is if the vizhinjam did start functioning at the time when kochi was trivandrum would be most happening city in asia.and kochi will be nowhere in the map.it will hapen even now.we dosent need large port for to challenge kochi.it need just onlike present one in kochi.if any malali will not allow it to happen we will promote colechal .even though it is part of tamilnadu it is better for trivandrum.kochi port has no scope in the future.
